We teach how to solve practical problems using modern numerical methods and computers. The course introduces iterative methods for solving linear equations systems and eigenvalue problems of large dimensions. Kathryn Lund Matrix functions are a central topic of linear algebra, and problems requiring their numerical approximation appear increasingly often in scientific computing. This time, it has a special emphasis on linear algebra challenges in optimization, but as always, all topics of applied and numerical linear algebra are welcome. The workshop is Wednesday to Friday lunch to lunch and follows after the 2nd Workshop on Scientific Computing in Sweden 2018 at the same location.
